    Grafting Workshop w/Old Mission Chestnut Group

    Dougherty Mission House 18459 Mission Rd, Traverse City, MI

    This hands-on workshop will teach the basics of grafting with scions gathered from the Dougherty Mission and other Large Surviving Americans (LSAs). Participants can leave with multiple genetics to grow on their own property or to potentially assist with LSA Breeding crosses in the future. Free to attend with donations accepted. Will take place in protected but outside area.

    A supply of tools and supplies will be provided, however if participants have their own tools to bring that would be beneficial.

    2026 Spring Field Day w/Hunters Land Management LLC

    Please join us for a Field Day at the HLM Test Property in Coleman, MI. This field day will be led by Hunter Fodor – Hunters Land Management LLC to help you better understand the following topics: understory vegetation management, ground scarification, creating snag trees, and utilizing coarse woody debris and brush piles for wildlife habitat. This will be a full outdoors event, so please dress accordingly and be prepared for the weather (will take place rain or shine). Water, snacks, and bathroom facilities will be provided. Content is geared towards forest landowners, loggers, foresters, and other natural resource professionals. Society of American Foresters CFEs and Sustainable Forestry Initiative credits will be available.

    Burn Plan Writing Workshop w/Michigan DNR and Huron Pines

    Join Huron Pines and the Michigan DNR for an in-person, two-day burn plan writing workshop on June 8–9 at Canada Creek Ranch in Atlanta, MI. This workshop is designed to build the technical skills, knowledge and confidence needed to create actionable burn plans for Northern Michigan's fire-dependent natural communities. This workshop is intended for land managers in Northern Michigan looking to incorporate or expand prescribed fire in their stewardship work. If you believe that prescribed fire would be an effective management tool on your land, but aren’t yet confident in developing a burn plan suited to your management goals, this workshop is for you. Attendees will be asked to come with potential burn units in mind to work through with professional guidance.

    S130 Fire Field Day & RT-130 Refresher w/Michigan DNR

    What: S-130 Field Day Overview
    A practical, outdoor training experience where students apply wildland firefighting techniques learned in the classroom. Participants practice skills such as fire line construction, tool use, water handling, and safety procedures in a controlled, real-world environment. The goal is to build confidence, teamwork, and readiness for working on active wildfires and prescribed burns.  

    RT-130 Refresher Training Overview
    An annual training session for wildland firefighters that reviews essential skills, safety practices, and current firefighting strategies. Participants refresh their knowledge of fire behavior, risk management, and operational procedures while discussing lessons learned from past incidents. The goal is to maintain readiness, reinforce safe decision-making, and keep firefighters up to date with evolving standards and conditions.

    Prescribed Burn Workshop w/Michigan DNR and Muskegon Conservation District

    Curious about prescribed fire and how it can benefit your land? Join us for an introductory workshop designed specifically for landowners interested in using fire as a management tool. In partnership with Michigan Department of Natural Resources Prescribed Burn Specialist GraceAnna Cooper, this workshop will explore the ecological benefits of prescribed burning and walk through practical considerations for implementing fire on your property.

    This workshop includes a guided look at our managed prairie, along with comparisons between burned and unburned prairie areas. Participants will gain a better understanding of fuel loads, fire behavior, and how prescribed burning can be used to promote healthy, resilient landscapes.

    Whether you’re new to prescribed fire or looking to expand your land management toolkit, this workshop offers valuable insights and real-world examples to get you started. This is a free workshop, but registration is required!
