    *CANCELLED* Misery Managed: Crosscut Saw Use and Maintenance Workshop

    MSU Natural Resource Department 480 Wilson Rd, East Lansing, MI, United States

    Join MFA, MSU Dept. of Forestry, and the Arboriculture Historical Society in hosting crosscut saw experts Dolly Chapman and Dan Dueweke for a workshop to explore the history, application, maintenance, and proper techniques for crosscut saws. This event will be all day (9a - 5p) and will have provided refreshments and lunch. Day One will be indoors at the Natural Resources Building on MSU campus at 480 Wilson Rd East Lansing, Day Two will be at the MSU Tree Research Center at 5640 Jolly Rd Okemos. Please bring your own saw and any saw maintenance tools you have for Dolly or Dan to check them out!

    To prepare for providing lunches, please let MFA Outreach Forester Ellie Johnson know of any dietary restrictions (ellie.johnson@michiganforests.org or 989-285-2981).

    WOAW Sustainable Forest Use Walk and Talk w/MTU

    Organized by Michigan Tech's Women in Natural Resources Club, join us as we lead discussions on managing forests for climate resilience, invasive species, and sustainable forest dyes/crafts. Depending on weather, we will go on a guided hike. While it will be fairly level, the hike may present tripping hazards. Additionally, we will be taking a discussion break and providing light refreshments part-way through the event. Supervised activities for children will be available.

    Walnut Council Spring Field Day

    Join the Michigan Chapter of the Walnut Council at Des Jones’ Centennial Acres Tree Farm for their Spring 2026 Field Day. This family fun event will be spent exploring the 86 acres of the farm through activities at the picnic area and tours with Gator caravans. Agenda includes displays of forestry tools (including drones), running the sawmill, and a tour of managed forest stands and newly planted black walnuts seedlings. Coffee, water, doughnuts and lunch will be provided.

    Vernal Pool Exploration w/Michigan Nature/DNR/Friends of Rouge Park

    Explore a vernal pool and the biodiversity within Rouge Park! We will be completing a monitoring visit as a group following the Vernal Pool Patrol protocol. Co-hosted by Michigan Nature Association (MNA), Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources, and the Friends of Rouge Park. Come mingle with foresters, arborists, and other private forest landowners to discuss forest stewardship and cultivate community. First 30 attendees will receive a free beer ticket, and pizza from Two Sons will be available.

    Neighbor Network Mixer w/Benzie Conservation District

    Five Shores Brewery 163 S Benzie Blvd, Beulah, MI, United States

    The Michigan Forest Association and the Benzie Conservation District are teaming up to continue the Neighbor Network, a volunteer tree planting initiative for the Benzie County community. Started in 2024 with the Forestry Assistance Program, this mixer is a chance for past Neighbors to reconnect and tentative new Neighbors to join the fun. The Neighbor Network aims to connect private landowners with other private landowners to assist with tree plantings. Since it's establishment in 2024, the Benzie Neighbor Network has had 6 Neighbor-hosted tree plantings that have resulted in 2,600+ seedlings getting in to the ground.

    First 20 attendees to Five Shores day-of the event will receive a free drink ticket, and there will be light refreshments available. Please direct any dietary restrictions (or general questions and concerns) to MFA Outreach Forester Ellie Johnson (ellie.johnson@michiganforests.org or 989-285-2981).
