    Walnut Council Spring Field Day

    Join the Michigan Chapter of the Walnut Council at Des Jones’ Centennial Acres Tree Farm for their Spring 2026 Field Day. This family fun event will be spent exploring the 86 acres of the farm through activities at the picnic area and tours with Gator caravans. Agenda includes displays of forestry tools (including drones), running the sawmill, and a tour of managed forest stands and newly planted black walnuts seedlings. Coffee, water, doughnuts and lunch will be provided.

    Vernal Pool Exploration w/Michigan Nature/DNR/Friends of Rouge Park

    Explore a vernal pool and the biodiversity within Rouge Park! We will be completing a monitoring visit as a group following the Vernal Pool Patrol protocol. Co-hosted by Michigan Nature Association (MNA), Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources, and the Friends of Rouge Park.     Discover ISA (Over an IPA!)

    Join the Michigan Forest Association (MFA) and the Michigan chapter for the International Society of Arborists (ISA) for an evening of friendship, forestry, food, and fun! Come mingle with foresters, arborists, and other private forest landowners to discuss forest stewardship and cultivate community. First 30 attendees will receive a free beer ticket, and pizza from Two Sons will be available.

    Neighbor Network Mixer w/Benzie Conservation District

    Five Shores Brewery 163 S Benzie Blvd, Beulah, MI, United States

    The Michigan Forest Association and the Benzie Conservation District are teaming up to continue the Neighbor Network, a volunteer tree planting initiative for the Benzie County community. Started in 2024 with the Forestry Assistance Program, this mixer is a chance for past Neighbors to reconnect and tentative new Neighbors to join the fun. The Neighbor Network aims to connect private landowners with other private landowners to assist with tree plantings. Since it's establishment in 2024, the Benzie Neighbor Network has had 6 Neighbor-hosted tree plantings that have resulted in 2,600+ seedlings getting in to the ground.

    First 20 attendees to Five Shores day-of the event will receive a free drink ticket, and there will be light refreshments available. Please direct any dietary restrictions (or general questions and concerns) to MFA Outreach Forester Ellie Johnson (ellie.johnson@michiganforests.org or 989-285-2981).

    Grafting Workshop w/Old Mission Chestnut Group

    Dougherty Mission House 18459 Mission Rd, Traverse City, MI

    This hands-on workshop will teach the basics of grafting with scions gathered from the Dougherty Mission and other Large Surviving Americans (LSAs). Participants can leave with multiple genetics to grow on their own property or to potentially assist with LSA Breeding crosses in the future. Free to attend with donations accepted. Will take place in protected but outside area.

    A supply of tools and supplies will be provided, however if participants have their own tools to bring that would be beneficial.

    small sharp knife-dedicated grafting knife, replaceable box cutter/utility knife (my preferred tool) or sharp pocket knife will work.
