If you are a logger, landowner, or farmer who has bought or sold timber in the past 3 years, or plan to harvest timber, then this Timber Tax Workshop is a must. Hosted by Michigan Forest Association, Susan Metcalfe of Metcalfe Forestry & Burns Timber Tax Service will cover a range of topics involving your potential taxes on the money earned by buying and selling timber, how to keep more money in your pocket & pay less in tax. This will also cover myths common in the forestry and accounting communities, explain about the capital gains treatment of the purchase and sale of timber, and give valuable tips on how some loggers can drastically reduce their regular income and tax liability and how some landowners may pay little or no tax on their timber sale revenue. Total workshop will be indoors at the Boardman River Nature Center.
Come take a wintry walk with Ellie Johnson (MFA) And Jodi Monteith (BCD) to learn the trees that make up our hardwood forests. Hiking poles, YakTrax, and snowshoes provided if requested.
This presentation will cover the numerous programs and organizations available to assist private landowners with their forest management projects. From technical assistance to funding and habitat restoration to property tax programs, we’ll go over many of the partners in the public and private sector and how they can help meet your management goals. Hosted and presented by Ellie Johnson, Outreach Forester for Michigan Forest Association.
