Woodland Stewardship Course

Join us for an exclusive education opportunity, only for MFA Members!

The Woodland Stewardship Course is an online educational experience catered to MFA Members who are interested in taking a deeper dive into forest stewardship. The upcoming 2027 Spring semester will run from January to April.

Attendees will:  

• Join monthly Zoom meetings with other Members and guest speakers on the final Tuesday of each month (1/26, 2/23, 3/30 & 4/27) to explore the content in depth.
• Work through “Woodland Stewardship: A Practical Guide for Midwestern Landowners”, with a couple chapters assigned each month.
• Explore other supplemental text and resources that further expand the topics discussed in the text. 
• Complete activities to apply new knowledge, and work on a forest management plan project.
• Attend MFA-hosted in-person events, and engage with partner hosted events to better connect with your local woodland stewardship resources.

Registration fee and Discount Possibilities

The spring semester registration fee is $150. There will be the opportunity at sign-up to add books relevant to the course at an additional cost. Registrants must be MFA Members (check out the Membership page here), have access to a device with reliable internet connection, and an enthusiasm to learn about forestry.

MFA has a special focus on supporting forest landowners who fit certain categories. We offer a discounted rate to landowners who:

• Are a member of a federally-recognized Tribe.
• Are a veteran or active-duty military.
• Live or own land in Clare, Houghton, Isabella, Lake, Mecosta, or Wayne counties.
• Have owned land in Michigan for 10 years or less.
• Are at or below the national poverty level ($15,000 single, $20,000 couple, $30,000 family of 4).
• Others based on need.
