    Prescribed Burn Workshop w/Michigan DNR and Muskegon Conservation District

    Curious about prescribed fire and how it can benefit your land? Join us for an introductory workshop designed specifically for landowners interested in using fire as a management tool. In partnership with Michigan Department of Natural Resources Prescribed Burn Specialist GraceAnna Cooper, this workshop will explore the ecological benefits of prescribed burning and walk through practical considerations for implementing fire on your property.

    This workshop includes a guided look at our managed prairie, along with comparisons between burned and unburned prairie areas. Participants will gain a better understanding of fuel loads, fire behavior, and how prescribed burning can be used to promote healthy, resilient landscapes.

    Whether you’re new to prescribed fire or looking to expand your land management toolkit, this workshop offers valuable insights and real-world examples to get you started. This is a free workshop, but registration is required!

    WOAW Weekend

    Michigan Forest Association will be hosting their inaugural Women Owning and Appreciating Woodlands (WOAW) Weekend at Camp Greilick (property managed by Grand Traverse County Parks and Rec) this summer. Join us on June 26 to 28 as we discuss forest management recommendations, ecological properties of Michigan ecosystems, and what it means to be a good forest steward. There will be numerous sessions hosted by an array of natural resource professionals to help cultivate learning, community, and fun. Come enjoy the camaraderie of summer camp with other women who love and manage woodlands. Attendance is capped at 60 participants, meals will be provided, and there are limited lodgings for those interested in staying on-site at Camp Greilick.     A Great Water Awakening? w/GreenER

    Green Elk Rapids will host “A Great Water Awakening? Seizing the Moment” presented by Circle of Blue’s J. Carl Ganter.
    Ganter, managing director of the international news organization Circle of Blue, will share insights from the frontlines of the global water crises. Also a member of the World Economic Forum Global Future Council on the Energy Nexus, and former Time Magazine and National Geographic photojournalist, Ganter will trace the arc from global water challenges and policy down to the Great Lakes and what local communities can do. The talk arrives at a pivotal moment for freshwater systems in Michigan, the United States and globally.

    Mothapalooza

    Shawnee Lodge and Conference Center 4404B OH-125, West Portsmouth, OH

    Located in the vast 60,000-plus-acre Shawnee State Forest, lthe site is one of high, native biodiversity. Large numbers of moth species and other nocturnal insects will be attracted to our specially-installed light stations, all while under the mentorship of expert naturalists. Evening presentations will be hosted at the Shawnee Lodge and Conference Center. Be prepared to stay up late into the night, so come well-rested!

    Optional Friday and Saturday afternoon guided hikes will expose participants to the region’s stunning beauty, with additional sit-down classes to choose from. When we get close to the dates of the event, we will be emailing you details on all of our field rrips adn workshops, asking you for your preferences, Your choice will be confirmed your assignments by email, along with all the driving directions you’ll need for the entire weekend.

    BEGINNERS ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED! Previous experience is not at all necessary. We are eager to help beginners enjoy the event , and we can’t think of a better entry to loving moths than Mothapalooza!. Special training and orientation programs are available for beginners on Friday afternoon. Fortunately, unlike butterflies, once moths land on a lighting sheet, they usually relax and will linger quietly for minutes, sometimes hours, allowing you to closely approach and providing plenty of time to take photographs to facilitate later identification, Even your cell phone will perform quite nicely for this function.

    The HKCD Diamond Jubilee w/Houghton Keweenaw Conservation District

     The Houghton Keweenaw Conservation District is turning 75 this year! To celebrate, we would like to invite everyone to Calumet Waterworks Township Park on August 1, 2026 for a day of fun for the whole family. Also present will be an assortment of groups, agencies, and other organizations able to provide technical assistance, advice, and direction on how you can better manage your land and continue conservation in the Copper County and beyond. Food and drink will also be available for purchase from some of our local mobile vendors or simply pack a lunch to enjoy down on the shores of Lake Superior.
